Participant Development Review
Gaining a greater understanding of how participants develop, and how this varies between age/stage and pathway, is a central component of the UK Coaching Framework. To bring together the existing research and thinking in this area, sports coach UK is commissioning a detailed review into participant development and participant development models. Aims & Objectives - Identify the main findings / principles associated with participant development, the methods used to generate this information, and the strengths and weaknesses of the supporting research
- Consider the evidence on participant and individual development against a wider array of sporting objectives and pathways i.e. 'competitive', 'recreational' and 'returners'
- Discuss the extent to which it is possible to build models in a UK institutional and cultural context, from findings generated in different countries and contexts
- Identify pockets of research that have not been utilised, research weaknesses and gaps from the existing profile, and outline a suitable research programme for the development of this area moving forward
