Mentoring Review

sports coach UK commissioned InVest, at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC), to critically review the sports coach and wider mentoring literature and evidence, and to undertake new primary work, to develop a training package for sports coach mentors.

Aims & Objectives

  • Undertake appropriate definitional and conceptual work on sports coach mentoring
  • Review the sports coach mentoring and other relevant literatures to determine the scope, quality, findings and recommendations for practice
  • Conduct fieldwork with mentors and coaches to determine best practice approaches

Practical Implications

  • Improve understanding of how appropriate sports coach mentoring programs can be developed
  • Improve the structure, content and delivery of future sports coach mentoring training provision
  • Provide recommendations on the development of a sports coach mentoring qualification and good practice for recruiting, deploying and managing sports coach mentors
