Coach Learning and Development Review
In order to provide high quality development experiences to coaches - qualifications, workshops, mentoring, learning resources etc. - it is essential to have a high level of understanding of how coaches learn and develop within and outside these structures and interventions. sports coach UK has commisioned a consortium of researchers at Loughborough University, Leeds Metropolitan University and University of Wales, Institute, Cardiff to pull together the latest thinking on coach learning and development. Aims & Objectives - Identify main findings / princinples associated with coach learning and development, the methods used to generate this information, and the strengths and weaknesses of the supporting research
- Take a broader look at research evidence pertinent to the future development of coach learning and development, for example, by considering wider learning theories, adult learning theories and the expertise literature
- Discuss the extent to which it is possible to take advantage of in situ learning opportunities, emphasising a broad range of coaching knowledge such as the how and why as well as the what
- Discuss the future of more formalised coaching interventions such as workshops and learning resources
- Identify pockets of research that have not been utilised, research weaknesses and gaps, from the existing profile and outline a suitable research program for the development of this area moving forward.
