Reach celebrates female coaches on International Women’s Day

Tue, 08 Mar 2016

Reach, the national campaign created by sports coach UK is celebrating International Women's Day (March 8) by highlighting the success of women coaches at all levels and encouraging more women to get involved.

Reach was developed by sports coach UK to attract even more inspirational women into our coaching family, whilst also looking to evolve the current systems to better reach, recruit, develop and support them.

Knowing this is not a quick fix and recognising that behavioural and cultural changes take time, sports coach UK has committed to support a ten year vision to evolve how the coaching system effectively supports women.

Coaching is one of many industries where women are underrepresented. Women offer different life and leadership qualities whilst having the ability to understand the psychological and social pressures female athletes and participants experience.

High-profile elite female coaches provide important role models for potential/up-and-coming athletes.

Sarah Milner, Inclusion and Diversity lead, sports coach UK said:

“Addressing the gender gap in the coaching workforce is a must. Coaching is a unique career path that can be incredibly rewarding and we need to create more role models to inspire the next generation for change.

“You do not need to be ultra-sporty or a high level performer to get involved in coaching. The desire to help others take part and help break down the barriers they may face is much more important.”

Throughout International Women’s Day Reach will shine the spotlight via social media on coaches and partners who are supporting the programme. Follow the Reach Twitter feed throughout the day to hear about our Reach Coaches.

Get involved in International Women’s Day and show your support by engaging with Reach and using the hashtag #IWD2016.
