Coaching - FUNdamentals ABC

The ABCs that Make a Difference

FUNdamentals of agility, balance and coordination

These three separate workshops build on the knowledge previously gained from 'An Introduction to the FUNdamentals of Movement' workshop and look at the individual components of agility, balance and coordination in more detail.

By working your way through these workshops, you will be able to:

  • introduce and identify the specific principles of Agility, Balance and Coordination in more detail within various stages of activity
  • develop skills of observation, evaluation and intervention to improve Agility, Balance and Coordination in complex activities
  • understand, develop and improve participants’ movement skills with sport-specific techniques.

Learning about the core principles that underpin the three key components of agility, balance and coordination will enable you to take your understanding of the FUNdamentals of Movement to the next level. This will help you incorporate the generic skills that underpin the majority of sports and improve your coaching of children.

By taking your knowledge to the next level, you’ll be in an excellent position to improve the physical literacy of your young athletes.

Principles that will be examined in detail in the workshops, include:

FUNdamentals of Agility:

starting, stopping, changing direction, rotation, reaction and complex movements.

FUNdamentals of Balance:

height of centre of gravity, centre and base, losing balance, extending the base, positioning the centre of gravity, counterbalance and moving forces.

FUNdamentals of Coordination:

organising limbs, generating force, differentiating force, speed and accuracy and interception.
