Board of non-executive Directors

The Board of non-executive Directors is chaired by Chris Baillieu and supported by Derek Taylor as Vice-Chair. The Board is supported by the Executive Management Team.


 

Chris Baillieu - Chair

Chris is an Olympic rowing silver medallist from the 1976 Games, and has five World Championship medals to his name, including gold in 1977.

Chris was Chair of British Swimming between 2001 and 2008, a period during which the sport saw a resurgence in its international success at all levels.

In addition to his business interests he is currently Chair of both the Olympians and Active Wandsworth - the Sports and Physical Activity Network. He is a trustee and Vice Chair of SportsAid, the national charity responsible for raising and distributing funds for talented young people, and also of the Torch Trophy Trust which recognises and supports sports volunteers. 

He has also been a TV commentator with the BBC, a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta and a member of World Rowing’s (FISA) Media. 


 
Derek Taylor - Vice Chair

Derek Taylor - Vice Chair

Derek has been the Chairman of the Coachwise (sports coach UK's trading subsidiary) Board of Directors since 1996 and is currently Vice-Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee.

He retired as a Director of the Halifax Building Society in 1996 and served as a Director of a professional football club for 19 years. He was also Chairman of the Yorkshire region of the Lord's Taverners, the recognised official charity for cricket, for eight years.


 
Nick Bunting

Nick Bunting

Nick represented the home unions on the International Rugby Board Referee Technical Committee on the development of referee, touch judge and assessor training and development products, as well as representing England on the European Rugby Referee Committee. He has also presented on refereeing matters at the International Rugby Board's annual conferences.

Currently, Nick is Head of Public Affairs, Planning, Funding and Resources for the Rugby Football Union and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee of sports coach UK. Other positions held include Chair of Northamptonshire County Sports Partnership, a trustee of the Rugby Football Foundation, and a director of the Central Council for Physical Recreation and England Netball Board. Previously, Nick was a member of the East Midlands Regional Sports Board and Chair of Sports Officials UK.


 
Joslyn Hoyte-Smith

Joslyn Hoyte-Smith

Olympic and Commonwealth medalist Joslyn has lectured in sports studies and has been involved in high-performance sport for over 10 years. Previously Performance Lifestyle Adviser for the English Institute of Sport, she is now London Performance Operations Manager.

 

She is a member of the sports coach UK Board, Governance Sub-committee of the Board and the Coaching Standards Group.


 
Philip Kimberley

Philip Kimberley

Philip Kimberley joined England Hockey as part-time Executive Chairman in May 2003 following a long and successful career in international general management with Burmah Castrol Plc - the last few years of which he was Chief Executive of Castrol’s Asian region. Prior to joining England Hockey, he ran a small charity for a year gaining valuable not for profit experience.

He led the rebuilding of England Hockey on a day-to-day basis until January 2009 when he handed over to Sally Munday who was appointed to the new position of Chief Executive. Philip continues to lead the England Hockey board as non-executive Chairman. In addition he is England’s representative on the Great Britain Hockey board.

In early 2009 Philip was appointed Chairman of Nemisys and ipadio, web development and internet systems companies respectively. He also became a Non-Executive Director of UK Sport in 2009.

Philip joined the Board of sports coach UK in July 2009 as interim Chairman before handing over to Chris Baillieu in January 2010.

 


 
Richard Palmer OBE, CBE

Richard Palmer OBE, CBE

Richard is Executive Vice President of the British Olympic Association and a Director of the British Olympic Foundation. He was Technical Director of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic bid and was awarded a CBE for his work in that regard. He is also a member of the Governance Sub-Committee of the Board of non-executive Directors.


 
Bev Smith

Bev Smith

Bev is a former international gymnast, coach and technical official. She is currently a senior lecturer in sports development and coaching at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, and a non-executive Director of Welsh Gymnastics Ltd and sports coach UK. She is a member of the Coaching Standards Group.


 
Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor

Mark heads the Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and Resources department for a London-based investment bank. He also leads the firm’s compliance effort for Russia and the Middle East and was named Managing Director in 2007. Mark is Chair of the Governance Sub-committee of the Board.
