Sport England has completed a policy review that places an emphasis on getting more people participating in, and enjoying sport, and helping those with talent realise their full potential.
The new way forward will see funding streamed through Governing Bodies of Sport with coaching, grass-roots and youth participation all identified as key areas.
The important role coaching has to play was emphasised by Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham who said: By investing heavily in coaching and the club structure we can maximise the chances for English sporting success and improve the quality of the sport experience for all.
The strategy will see key agencies working together, with sports coach UK focusing on investment in frontline coaching with Sport England. sports coach UK has been working closely with Sport England and the Governing Bodies in sport to identify the optimal contribution that coaching can make to the Sport England objectives.
sports coach UK will also be leading on the implementation of initiatives such as the Coaching for Young People strand, and Recruit To Coach, a scheme where the organisation will work with Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust to increase the voluntary coaching sector by 8000 people.
