3rd UK Coaching Summit

Representatives from the coaching landscape gathered at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on April 22-23 for the 3rd UK Coaching Summit.

The theme of the conference, which was attended by over 550 delegates, was 'Building the Coaching Workforce' to develop and deliver a world-leading coaching system in the UK.

The two-day event saw keynote speeches from key figures such as Sport England CEO Jennie Price, sportscotland CEO Stewart Harris, Chair of UK Sport and the Youth Sport Trust, Sue Campbell, and sports coach UK CEO Pat Duffy.

Delegates also had the chance to network and attend a range of workshops around the 'Building the Coaching Workforce' theme. These workshops included UK Coaching Framework: Connecting Coach Development Support and UK Coaching Framework: Enhancing the Management of Coaches.

The Summit also saw the formal launch of the UK Coaching Framework, that was attended by the Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe, and who in a speech to delegates joined Jennie Price, Sue Campbell and sports coach UK Chairman Ian McGeechan in giving their backing to the Framework.

The Governing Body representatives on the Coaching Advisory Group were also announced at the Summit, following a nomination and voting process. For further details on the Coaching Advisory Group please click here.

The Summit concluded with a declaration that was adopted by delegates that set out the following targets:

  • Complete the Building the Foundations stage by March 31st 2009 ensuring that roles and goals are clarified and agreed
  • UK Coaching Strategy Group to identify the operational and investment implications, maximising alignment between all key agencies
  • Publish the Coaching Workforce 2009 – 2016
    To include Trailblazer 1 sports and other sports based on W-R-A linked to strategic plans for the sport.
