is going through an organisational review to ensure it is best placed to ensure the successful implementation of the UK Coaching Framework.As a result the make up of the South West team is continuing to go through a process of change. If you have any questions regarding the practicalities of the re-organisation and how the changes will affect you please contact any of the South West team identified below.
During this continued re-organisation period we have decided to communicate the most pertinent information from the sports coach UK South West region through the Sport England bulletin, returning to this Partner Update at the conclusion of the re-organisation process.

UK Coaching Summit
The 3rd UK Coaching Summit will take place on 22 and 23 April 2008 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. This event, part of an annual series leading to 2016, aims to significantly widen the number of key influences and practitioners involved in the development and implementation of the UK Coaching Framework.A large percentage of delegate places are reserved for key partners.There are open marketplaces available for members of the coaching community interested in this event that will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.For further information click here

England Athletics South West Region Coaching Conference
On:
Saturday 12th April 2008 At: University of Bath - Sports Training Village

Key note deliverer: Steve Backley OBE.

In addition there will be a range of workshops offered which will be relevant across a number of sports.

These include:
PAC Training – Steve Backley OBE.
Practical PAC training session looking at
drill & skill development.
Applied Biomechanics – Dr Chris Mills (Exeter University)
How coaches can use basic biomechanic techniques in their coaching using video analysis.
Strength & Conditioning – David Rowland (Former Bristol Rugby S&C coach)
A practical session giving strength and conditioning ideas such as medicine ball work and Olympic lifting technical advice.
Mentoring – Les Duggan (UK Athletics mentoring tutor)
Delivering a condensed version of his two-day UK Athletics level-3 mentoring course.
Marathon Training – Martin Rush (UKA SW Talent Development Manager)
Practical ideas and tips for marathon training, ideal if you happen to be running the London Marathon the following day.
Fundamental Movement Skills – Fuzz Ahmed (Level-4 High Jump Coach and Actor) and Julie Crane (Commonwealth High Jump Silver medalist).A practical workshop to demonstrate key fundamental movement skills, which can be applied within your coaching delivery.

Wiltshire Coaches Conference 2008
On:
Sunday 27th April 2008 At: Tidworth Leisure Centre

This conference will allow you to join and network with coaches from all across Wiltshire, to share and gain new ideas in coaching. Whatever your sporting activity or interests, you'll find the workshops, activities and talks will support you in your future coaching and personal development.

Ronnie will also lead a workshop in which delegates will participate and observe, gaining new ideas in delivering multi-skills for every individual in your session

Nancy Ovens Bursary
Applications for the Nancy Ovens Bursary, aimed at volunteer coaches or leaders working in the active leisure and learning sector, are being invited for 2008.
The scheme, entering its third year, has proved extremely successful, with 12 coaches having so far benefited from the initiative - that is sponsored by SkillsActive and awarded by the Nancy Ovens Trust.

Case Studies
A number of case studies have recently been added to the South West web pages.
These include:

  • Active Gloucestershire delivery of a county-wide Active Start programme delivered and managed by their Active Start Community Sports Coach
  • The South West Regional Coach Manager project.The case study includes details about the programme delivered in WESPORT and SASP
  • An interactive netball ‘Game Analysis Workshop’ co-coordinated by Netball South West and facilitated by Lyn Gunson.

The sports coach UK South West team has developed a series of case studies outlining projects that have, or are, taking place. Presently 14 case studies are posted on the South West section of the sports coach UK website and highlighted on a monthly basis.
