sports coach UK strongly recommends that all coaches hold a relevant qualification for administering first aid in sport. However, if the environment where they are coaching provides access to appropriate first aid provision, then it would be at the discretion of the coach, the coach's employer and the facility as to the necessity of the coach's qualification, based on an appropriate assessment of risk.
As well as the more general first aid qualifications offered by St Andrew's Ambulance Association, St John's Ambulance and the British Red Cross, sports coach UK and the British Red Cross offer an Emergency First Aid for Sport course workshop which includes first aid: Injury Prevention and Management.
