General Information
In July 2002, the Coaching Task force published its final report and recommendations for improving the development, employment and deployment of coaches in England. Richard Caborn, the Minister for Sport, welcomed those recommendations and on 24 July 2002, Tessa Jowell, the Secretary for State, Culture, Media and Sport announded that the Government would invest more than £25 million over the following three years to implement them.

The Coaching Task Force had three big implications for the work of sports coach UK:
- the UK Coaching Certificate
- 45 Coach Developement Officers
- 3000 Community Sports Coaches

The 45 Coach Development Officers have now been in post for between 1 and 2 years and are based in counties throughout the UK.
The Community Sports Coach Scheme is coordinated by Sport England.
