- professional and ethical values and inclusive and equitable practice
- agreed national standards of competence as a benchmark at all levels
- a regulated and licensed structure
- recognition, value and appropriate funding and reward
- a culture and structure of innovation, constant renewal and continuous professional development.

A central issue arising from our Mission Statement is to describe what a world class coaching system will look like. We believe that the likely characteristics of a world class coaching system will include:
- coach development linked firmly to player development
- continuous learning and inclusive practice based on a strong foundation of research, continuous professional development and ethical practice
- central coordination by an organisation empowered to do so but 'owned' by everybody
- simplicity and flexibility, not hierarchy and rigid bureaucracy
- use of a common framework of agreed national standards
- shared strategic approaches with common generic components
- effective management of coaches (paid and unpaid) and their development through registers/licences
- not allowing organisations and/or individuals to opt out of the system
- a focus on adding value to the experience of the individual player/performer and the individual coach as well as the player-coach interaction at all levels.
